“Hygge” – a Danish term defined as “a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being.”
Pronounced “HOO-GUH”, the word derivers from a sixteenth century Norwegian term, hugger, meaning “to comfort” or “to console”, which is related to the English word “hug”. Hygge is associated with relaxation, indulgence, gratitude, cozy and loving intimate gatherings.
Think glowing faces by fireside or candlelight, relaxing in comfortable clothes, with fine wine or delicious cocoa, laughing and sharing in a safe and loving environment. That is a hygge experience.
